Choosing a Career Path: A Life Path

When it comes to choosing a right career path, the decision can be tricky and challenging. Whether you are a student looking to begin your professional career or a professional looking to change your existing career path, choosing a right career is riddled with anxiety and confusion. First of all, you need to know that there is no such thing as a right or wrong career. What actually makes it right or wrong is determined by how much you enjoy the career path you choose.

Once you go out on the look for a perfect career path, you will come across a plethora of options. You can go for a private job or can apply for government exams to get into a government job; you can work in a bank or even can freelance if you want. The possibilities here are endless, and the challenge for you is to find a path that you will enjoy.

However, the question here is “do you know what career path will you enjoy?” Well, this is something that even Google cannot answer for you. Yes, you will come across a lot of content online that will provide you tools and methods that can help you figure out a career path, but you will never find a direct answer for the question. The only thing that can provide you the direct answer is YOU. With proper guidance and research, you can make the right decision about your career.

Wondering what you should do? Worry not, here are some points that you can consider to choose the right career path:

Find what Interests you

The most important thing that you need to do is understand yourself. Know your Psyche and personality traits, weaknesses, strengths, interests, and other significant factors. Since childhood, our brains are hardwired and conditioned to follow what other successful people do. While it is not a bad thing to do, it makes more sense to figure out what you like for yourself.

Imagine you end up in a career or job that you whine about all the time, does it sound good? Therefore, it is very important that you figure out a field that interests you. If you have a passion for something, make sure that you research about it and find if any jobs match your passion.

Balance your Interest with things that you are Good at

What happens with most of the people is that they face an ugly situation where they need to choose between what they excel at and what they want to pursue. If this situation arises at any point while deciding your career, it's best that you choose the former or the middle ground. This will give you ample chances to excel in the career you choose. For example, you might want to become an ISRO scientist, and you might have good teaching skills. This is when you could choose the middle ground and can become a Ph.D. teacher, where you can research and can also teach people. Remember, always focus on the best skills you have and match it with your personality and Psyche to determine the career that could suit you. At the end of the day if Your Psyche doesn’t match or able to express fully in the career or Job you are pursuing then, you’ll always be in a compromising situation with a feeling of un-satisfaction.  Career Counselling is so small word; I would rather say Life Counseling is the correct word, because if you are not doing what you enjoy the most then your work will be a burden to you and not the state of satisfaction.

Apply for Tests

Whenever you take a career assessment test, your way of thinking reveals what you need to do the most or where you actually want to go. These career tests and entrance tests can help you determine your passion and the skills that you possess as an inborn quality, because education just pamper your inborn talent but Knowledge empower the way to work on your inner talents and to find the Purpose. So your career should be something which intrigues you every day to work and help you reveal your inner talents every day. Career Assessment is another way to present the food for your mind, for the best career selection and Finding your Ikigai.

Today, you can find various free online career assessment tests that you can take. Also, you can figure out some verticals that you are interested in and apply for their entrance tests. For example - if you are interested in doing a government job, you can give the entrance exams associated with them. Then all you need to do is wait for the rojgari results (as they are commonly known) that will give you an idea about how passionate or skilled you are to take it up as a job. Get an Internship

Internships are a great way to test and determine your skills. They also provide you an opportunity to study a specific niche and decide on pursuing it or not. Since most internships are of short duration, i.e., 3-6 months, you can get a better idea of what you can expect from a career if you choose it. At its worst, you may find the niche is not to your liking, which will ensure you drop the option and find other options to choosefrom. Also, internships help you build a network for yourself, which can be very helpful in the future.

Finding the right career path for your future is one of the most important decisions of your life. It might determine how your future might turn out. Therefore, you must be very careful while choosing any path. The points mentioned above and intense research are the only things that can help you choose the right career path.
