Difference Between JEE Main and JEE Advanced

JEE Main is the eligibility test for appearing in JEE Advanced. From 2019, the National Testing Agency (NTA) is in charge of conducting the JEE Main. JEE Advanced will be conducted by IITs under the direction of the Joint Admission Board (JAB) on a reasonable basis. JEE Advanced is only open to the top 2,50,000 candidates in JEE Main, including those from restricted categories. Candidates can only take the JEE Advanced exam twice in a row. Students can take the JEE Main examination three times in a row. For JEE Advanced, there is no set exam pattern. NTA establishes a clear test format for JEE Main.

Opted Subjects

As per the JEE main eligibility, the candidates appearing for JEE Main must have studied at least five subjects in their 10+2 or other qualifying examinations with Physics and Mathematics as mandatory subjects. While considering the five subjects, the candidates must have studied Language and an elective like Music, Physical Education, Informatics Practises, Drawing, etc, apart from the MPC subjects(Maths, Physics, and Chemistry).

Further, the applicants appearing in the JEE Main exam would also write specific papers as per the courses they wish to pursue. Listed below is the paper specific JEE Main eligibility:

  • B.E./ B.Tech – Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry / Technical Vocational Subject / Biology / Biotechnology along with any other subject.
  • B.Arch / B. Planning – Physics, Language & Mathematics [mandatory subjects], Chemistry / Biology / Biotechnology / Technical Vocational Subject along with any other subject.

State of eligibility – JEE Mains

The candidates must fulfill the following requirements concerning their State while applying for JEE Mains 2021.

  1. While filling the form, the students need to mention their state code of eligibility and this code will be similar to the code of the state from where you have completed your 12th or equivalent examination. And it won’t be dependent upon your native place or the place of permanent residence.
  1. In case the student has completed his/her class 12th education abroad, the state code of eligibility will be of the place in India, which is mentioned on the candidate’s passport.
  1. In case the candidate has completed from National School of Open Learning, the state code of eligibility will be according to the place where their study center is located.

Number of Attempts

The candidates can begin their attempts soon after the completion of their 10+2 exams. You can appear for the exam 3 years in a row. As in 2021 the JEE exam held four times i.e., in February, March, April and May, you can appear in all these four exams and that would be considered as only one attempt in a year So, this gives you the chance to prove your capabilities six times at a stretch and successfully fulfill your career aspiration.

JEE Advanced Eligibility 2022

To attain admission in one of the prestigious Indian engineering or architecture institutes, it is mandatory for the candidates to meet all of the below-listed eligibility criteria. These are the necessary requirements listed by the authorities to proceed with the JEE Advanced and they possess the authority to disqualify the candidature of the applicants if there is any discrepancy found. Hence it is advised to the candidates to fulfill the mandatory requirements before appearing for JEE Advanced

  • Candidates should have qualified for the minimum schooling of 10+2 in the year 2020 as well as the ones appearing in the year 2022
  • The general category candidates should be born on or after October 1st, 1995. However, there is a relaxation of 5 years for the applicants belonging to SC/ST/PWD.
  • It is essential for the students to qualify for the JEE mains examination.
  • The maximum number of attempts that candidates have in two consecutive years is two.
  • Candidates should never have been enrolled in any of the IITs. Further, the students who have acquired admission in IIT but yet cancelled it for some reason would not be allowed to appear in the exam
  • JEE Advanced Syllabus
  • If you are planning to appear for the JEE exam, you must get a hold of the vast syllabus of the same. Further, to score well in the JEE Advanced, the aspirants have to be more focused and determined as this would be the last step to climb the ladder of success. The JEE mains syllabus consists of 3 sections namely, Physics, Mathematics, and Chemistry. To cover the vast syllabus in a short time, it is advised that the candidates should thoroughly go through the syllabus, pen down their study plan and start the preparation as early as possible. JEE Main vs JEE Advanced

JEE Main Syllabus

Syllabus of JEE Main comprises the syllabus of CBSE class 11 and 12 Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics subjects. Topics like Electronic Devices, Electromagnetic Waves and Communication Systems are included in JEE main but are not asked in JEE Advanced. Similarly, some of the topics of Mathematics like Sets, Relations and Functions, Statistics and Probability, Trigonometry and Mathematical Reasoning are included in JEE Main but not in JEE Advanced. The exam conducting authority has laid down the complete Syllabus of JEE Main .

JEE Advanced Syllabus

Unlike JEE main, it includes a few extra topics apart from the class 11th and 12th syllabus. For e.g. JEE main does not include some of the topics of JEE Advanced like Thermal Physics is included in JEE Advanced but is not asked in JEE main. Similarly, Electrochemistry is included in JEE Advanced but not in JEE main.

JEE Main vs JEE Advanced- Difficulty Level

The JEE Mains and JEE Advanced are two different exams and the level of difficulty depends on each student and their preparation, here are a few points on the difficulty level of both the examinations-

JEE Main - Difficulty Level

This examination is considered to be easier than JEE Advanced as it only examines the candidates based on classes 11th and 12th. The number of students appearing is very high. whereas, the candidates are expected to score good marks in JEE Main to appear for JEE Advanced.

JEE Advanced - Difficulty Level

JEE Advanced is considered to be more difficult than the Main examination as it includes many topics other than the ones from class 11th and 12th, and it also tests the problem-solving skills of the applicants.
