About IIT Kanpur

Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur was established by the Government of India and was founded in 1959. It is also known as IIT Kanpur. The functioning of the institute started in the borrowed building of Harcourt Butler Technological Institute in 1959 in Kanpur. IIT Kanpur campus has 108 buildings and is spread over 1055 acres of land. The student-faculty ratio of the institute is 15:96. IIT Kanpur courses are offered at the UG, PG and doctoral level. It also offers part time M.Tech./M.Des./MS (Research) and Ph.D courses.

IIT-Kanpur is located on the Grand Trunk Road, 15 km west of Kanpur City. The campus is 18 km away from Kanpur Central Railway Station. The nearest airport is Lucknow Airport which is about 80 kms from IIT Kanpur. Students can hire a taxi to reach the campus.

IIT Kanpur Admission

Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur courses include B.Tech, M.Tech, MBA, BS, M.Sc, MS Research and PhD programme. Admission to B.Tech courses will be done on the basis of JEE Advanced after which the qualified candidates have to appear in the counselling process conducted by JoSAA. In order to take admission in M.Tech courses offered by IIT Kanpur, candidates have to appear and qualify in Gratitude Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) and register for COAP. Candidates who want IIT Kanpur admission for MBA programme have to appear CAT first and apply for the programme on institute website, after which the candidates will be shortlisted for further admission process (GD/PI). Admission to M.Sc courses will be done on the basis of candidates performance in Joint Admission Test. Firstly candidates have to appear and qualify JEE Advanced and then they have to register on the official website of Joint Seat Allocation Authority for participating in the JoSAA counselling.
Aspiring candidates have to participate in the JoSAA counselling and do the choice filling wherein they have to choose the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur as their first preference. After the filling of choices, they are locked and then seats are allotted to the students on the basis of the choices filled in by them.
Once the seat has been allotted in the JoSAA counselling, candidates have to get their documents verified by the authorities and then pay the requisite fee in order to confirm their admission.
Selection takes place on the basis of rank scored in JEE Advanced, and the choice filling, choice locking, seat allotment, document verification and fee payment by the candidates.
IIT Kanpur M.Tech Admission

According to the IIT Kanpur M.Des admission process, candidates have to qualify CEED and then they have to submit an online application form on the website of IIT Kanpur.
Aspiring candidates have to participate in the counselling process that comprises seat allotment, document verification and fee payment.

IIT Kanpur introduces a new department - ‘Department of Cognitive Science’ - Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur has introduced a new department called ‘Department of Cognitive Science’. The institute will be the first IIT to have a full-fledged department of Cognitive Science. This department will serve the purpose of imparting knowledge about the complexity involved in the human mind psyche triggered by a simple task like the fluttering of one’s eyelids. The newly launched department will help students to build their careers in human performance, artificial intelligence, business, healthcare, data analysis, government intelligence, information processing, law, marketing, product design, and software design. The idea of launching a department dedicated to the study of Cognitive Science emerged in the year 2019 when Cognitive Science Experts team visited the campus as a part of the National Advisory Committee and the proposal was approved on December 7, 2020, at the meeting of the Board of Governors held.
