Anna Mani an Indian physicist is the subject of a Google Doodle

Google dedicated a doodle to Anna Mani, India's first female physicist, on August 23. She was both a physicist and a meteorologist. She has made a significant contribution to meteorology and energy research.

Who is Anna Mani?

Anna Mani was born in the former state of Travancore on August 23, 1918. (present-day Kerala). She is popularly known as India's Weather Woman. Despite being born into a typical upper middle-class family, she aspired to be a prominent student. She had read all Malayalam books in the public library by the age of eight, and all English books by the age of twelve.

Women's Christian College (WCC) provided her with an Intermediate Science course, and Presidency College, Madras provided her with a Bachelor of Science with Honors in Physics and Chemistry. She taught at WCC for a year after graduation and was awarded a scholarship for postgraduate studies at the Indian Institute of Science in Bangalore. Anna earned her Ph.D. in London, where she specialised in meteorological instruments.

She began working for the India Meteorological Department upon his return to India in 1948. She also worked at the Raman Institute under the direction of Indian scientist CV Raman before retiring in 1976 as the Deputy Director General of the Meteorological Department of the Government of India. In 2001, she passed away.
