Indian Institute of Technology Indian School of Mines (IIT-ISM), Dhanbad was established in the year 1926, by Lord Irwin. The institution was granted the status of deemed to be university in the year 1967. The institution is is administered through IIT Council-the apex body, Government of India under the Chairmanship of Honourable Minister, MoHRD for uniform and smooth governance of Pan-IIT in our country. Admissions

IIT (ISM), Dhanbad offers B.Tech, M.Tech, M.Sc, MBA and PhD programme. Admission to these courses will be offered on the basis of various national entrance examinations. For B.Tech courses, candidates have to qualify JEE Main and appear for JEE Advanced and which they will have to register for the counselling process. For M.Tech courses, admission will be done on the basis of the candidate's score in Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) or written test conducted by the institute itself. In order to take admission in M.Sc courses, candidates have to appear in JAM on the basis of which they will be offered admission through centralised counselling. IIT (ISM), Dhanbad offers admission in MBA programme thorough common admission process of the 4 IITs (Chennai, Delhi, Dhanbad, Roorkee) in which shortlisted candidates (on the basis of CAT score) have to appear for WAT/PI. Candidates who want to seek admission for the PhD programme of IIT (ISM) have to first register for the programme first and will be shortlisted for the interview process. Admission processes for various courses offered by IIT (ISM), Dhanbad are listed below:

For B.Tech and Dual Degree Programmes:

  • Candidates have to qualify JEE Main and appear for JEE Advanced.
  • Candidates have to pass the Joint Entrance Examination-Advanced (JEE- Advanced).
  • For admission, aspirants will have to register for JOSAA where they will have to do the choice filling for the programmes and institute they want to opt for.
  • Selection of the candidates will be based on the merit list and the choice filling.

For M.Tech:

  • Admission to different M. Tech. Programmes for candidates will be made on the basis of their GATE score/rank in IIT (ISM) Entrance Examination.
  • Online counselling will be conducted by IIT (ISM) based on the GATE score/rank in the Entrance Exam conducted by IIT (ISM).
  • Candidates will be selected based on the online counselling in four rounds.

For M.Sc and M.Sc. Tech:

  • Admission will be based on valid JAM score.
  • Based on their JAM scores, candidates have to register and apply online for CCMN.
  • Admissions will be given through Centralized Counseling for M.Sc. Admissions to (CCMN) for which candidates have to register online and fill in the application.

For MBA:

  • Candidates will be shortlisted on the basis of CAT score.
  • Based on their CAT score, candidates have to register and apply online for admission to IIT Dhanbad.
  • Further, they will have to appear for Written Ability Test (WAT), Group Discussion and Personal Interview (PI).

For Executive MBA:

  • The applicant shall need to appear for written entrance test (subjective & essay type) to be conducted by Indian Institute of Technology (Indian School of mines) at Dhanbad.
  • Qualified candidates have to appear in an Interview.
  • Further, they have to register and apply online for admission.
  • Final selection shall be based on aggregate scores of written test, interview and experience.

For Ph.D:

  • Candidates have to register and apply online.
  • A candidate, who has qualified GATE/NET/Appropriate National Level Examination, is eligible for PhD admission in Engineering, Science and Humanities & Social Sciences.
  • A candidate who has qualified CAT/GMAT is eligible for PhD in Management.
  • The admission procedure consists of shortlisting and interview. The shortlisting of candidates will be done through a written examination conducted by the department depending on the number of candidates and the shortlisted candidates shall be called for an interview.
  • For Masters and/or bachelors degree holders from IITs having a CGPA of 8.0 or above, the requirement of GATE/NET is waived off.
