About IIT Bombay

Established in 1958, the second of its kind, IIT Bombay was the first to be set up with foreign assistance. The funds from UNESCO came as Roubles from the then Soviet Union. In 1961 Parliament decreed the IITs as ‘Institutes of National Importance'. Since then, IITB has grown from strength to strength to emerge as one of the top technical universities in the world.

The institute is recognised worldwide as a leader in the field of engineering education and research. Admissions

Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay Admission Procedure:

IIT, Bombay admissions to B.Tech/B.E/BS/Dual Degree programmes, B.Des programme, M.Tech/M.E/M.Phil/MBA programmes, M.Des programmes, M.Sc programmes and PhD programmes on the basis of an entrance examination.  Admission to B.Tech/B.E/BS/Dual Degree programmes is offered by IIT Bombay on the basis of scores JEE Advanced and candidates qualifying JEE Advanced will further have to register for JoSAA counselling for participating in the choice filling, choice locking and seat allotment.  For admission to B.Des programme, aspirants have to qualify UCEED exam conducted by IIT Bombay and further, they have to participate in the UCEED counselling. Indian Institute of Technology Bombay admission to M.Tech/M.E/M.Phil/MBA programmes are done on the basis of GATE/MAT/CAT/UGC-JRF/UGC-NET. For Admission to M.Des programmes, candidates have to qualify the CEED exam conducted by IIT Bombay. Indian Institute of Technology Bombay offers admission to M.Sc programmes on the basis of JAM followed by participation in the JAM counselling process. Admission to PhD programmes is offered by Indian Institute of Technology Bombay on the basis of GATE/CEED score or Junior Research Fellowship of CSIR/UGC/NBHM/DBT/ICAR/ICMR/ICPR or DST INSPIRE Fellowship. IIT, Bombay Admission Procedure for B.Tech/B.E/BS/Dual Degree programmes-

  • Candidates seeking admission to B.Tech/B.E/BS/Dual Degree programmes, have to appear and qualify JEE Advanced.

  • Based on their scores in JEE Advanced, candidates have to register for JoSAA counselling on the official website of JoSAA along with necessary documents and payment of fees.

  • Candidates need to choose IIT Bombay as the preferred college while doing the choice locking.

  • Based on the qualifying scores, students have to register themselves for counselling on the official website of IIT Bombay.

  • Candidates need to register themselves for counselling by providing their exam credentials, qualifying degrees, personal details and fees payment.

IIT, Bombay Admission Procedure for M.Des programmes-

  • Candidates seeking admission to the M.Des programme need to appear and qualify for the CEED exam conducted by IIT Bombay.

  • Based on the qualifying scores, candidates have to register themselves for CEED counselling on the official website of CEED along with all necessary documents and payment of fees.

  • Candidates need to select IIT Bombay as their first preference while doing the choice locking.

  • Candidates can get admission to the M.Des programme after the successful verification of documents and payment of fees.

For Admission to M.Sc programmes-

  • Candidates seeking admission to M.Sc programmes need to appear and qualify JAM.

  • Based on their JAM scores and eligibility criteria, candidates need to register themselves for JAM counselling on the official website of JAM by providing their JAM credentials, qualifying degrees certificates, personal details and fees payment.

  • Candidates will have to select IIT Bombay as their first preference while doing the choice locking.

  • Candidates will be offered admission to M.Sc programmes based on the counselling participation, choice locking, choice filling, document verification and payment of fees.

IIT, Bombay Admission Process for PhD programmes-

  • Candidates must have a valid GATE/CEED score or Junior Research Fellowship of CSIR/UGC/NBHM/DBT/ICAR/ICMR/ICPR or DST INSPIRE Fellowship to get admission to Ph.D programmes.

  • Candidates seeking admission to doctoral programmes, need to clear the written test conducted by the respective departments.

  • Candidates who will qualify the written test, need to appear for an interview related to their research area.

  • Based on the marks scored by candidates in their written test and interview, merit list of the eligible candidates will be released by the authority.

  • Candidates interested in applying in more than one department needs to apply on separate application forms along with the appropriate fee.

  • Candidates will get admission to doctoral programmes after the successful verification of documents and payment of fees.
