About IIT Bhilai

Indian Institute of Technology, Bhilai, is one of the 6 IITs which was established in the year 2016 in the state of Chhattisgarh by the Ministry of Human Resource and Development. IIT Bhilai strives for research-driven undergraduate and postgraduate education in the field of technology and engineering. The institution is presently housed at Government Engineering College (GEC) campus in Raipur, Chhattisgarh. IIT Bhilai offers almost 20 courses at all levels of higher education including Undergraduate, Postgraduate and PhD levels. Prof. Rajat Moona is the current director of IIT Bhilai. The institution aims to develop an education system which results in the multifaceted and holistic development of its students which deals with including but not limited to: research, entrepreneurship, technical leadership, righteousness, brilliance, accountability, inventiveness, and academic finesse which are some of the institution's core values.

Indian Institute of Technology, Bhilai, offers various courses such as Bachelor of Technology (B. Tech), Master of Technology (MTech), Master of Science (MSc) and Doctoral Program (PhD) in various departments. At this point in time the institute only offers BTech and MTech course in Electrical Engineering (EE), Mechanical Engineering (ME), and Computer Science and Engineering (CSE). With the PhD programs being available in Physics (PHY), Chemistry (CHM), Mathematics (MTH), Electrical Engineering (EE), Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), and Mechanical Engineering (ME). The institution aspires to play a significant role in national growth. It is committed to providing a conducive environment for technological and cultural studies and encourages independence. The course provided by the institution aims to stimulate innovation and originality.

Location

Indian Institute of Technology, Bhilai, is currently functioning from its transit campus at Government Engineering College (GEC), Raipur since it is a newly established institution. GEC Raipur has set up the four-storey B-block for the academic activities of IIT Bhilai. The transit campus is located in the Sejbahar area which is found on the Old Dhamtari Road in Raipur. Located around 10 km from the main city of Raipur it is well connected by utilising the public transport available in the area along with the Railway Station and Airport found in the Raipur city.

Admissions

Admission to IIT Bhilai is much like other IIT across the country. The institute offers various technology, engineering, and science courses in UG and PG degrees. However, let us look in detail about the process of admissions to IIT Bhilai.

  1. For BTech/BE admissions, candidates must appear for JEE Advanced, and based on their entrance exam score, they are required to register for JoSAA counselling on their website with the necessary documents and fees.
  2. Candidates are offered IIT Bhilai admission to BTech/BE based on JoSAA registration, counselling, document verification and fee payment.
  3. For admissions to MTech/ME/MSc, interested candidates need to appear and qualify GATE/JAM and should have completed a previous course degree in technology, engineering, or science from a recognized board of study.
  4. The candidates are required to submit their application form on IIT Bhillai’s official website after registering at the COAP portal. Documents should be submitted along with the fee payment. Selected candidates need to appear for a written test/interview conducted by the authority and bring along with them all the required documents. With completion of verification of documents, admissions will be finalized.
  5. For PhD, candidates need to appear for and qualify GATE with CGPA 8.0 in bachelor’s degree. A written test is also conducted by the institute along with interviews after GATE scores to qualify for final admissions.

The application forms and document verifications along with fee payments are done online. The interview and written test by the institutions are conducted in an offline mode.

Full remission of the Tuition Fee for General and OBC students whose family income is less than Rs.1 lakh per annum.
Remission of 2/3rd of the Tuition Fee for General and OBC students whose family income is between Rs.1 lakh to Rs.5 lakh per annum.
