About IIT BHU Varanasi

IIT BHU is an engineering institution established by Madan Mohan Malviya in 1919 as Banaras Engineering College. Later, in 2012, it was changed to Indian Institute of Technology. The institution is located in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh and has 14 departments and three inter-disciplinary schools. IIT BHU Varanasi is situated in the magnificent campus of Banaras Hindu University at the southern end of the ancient city on the banks of the river Ganga. It is one of the top IIT institutes in India that offers various facilities and infrastructure to its students and staff. It offers various courses in technology, engineering, science and humanities. IIT Varanasi offers B. Tech, Integrated Dual Degree, M. Tech, and PhD in various course degrees such as computer science and engineering, ceramic engineering, biomedical engineering, civil engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, metallurgical engineering, and many more to choose from. Students are offered with a lot of course options as per their interest and skills.

The institute has more than 200 faculty members and academic staff in total. They provide education and teach students as per their expertise in the field.

Admissions

Admissions in IIT BHU are made on the basis of the entrance exam score. If an individual is eligible to apply for entrance exams, they can appear for the exam when the date is released and score a certain percentage to be able to get admissions in the institution. For admissions to undergraduate degrees like B. Arch and BTech, JEE MAIN and JEE Advanced are required. For admissions to a postgraduate degree, an individual is required to appear for the GATE entrance exam for admissions. The minimum eligibility criteria for an undergraduate degree is that candidates must have secured 60% in class 12 and 55% for a postgraduate degree, along with entrance exams. The admission process is explained below in detail.

  1. After the conducting body of entrance exams has announced the exam dates and eligibility criteria, students should fill themselves in to appear for the entrance exams which are required by the institution for admissions.
  2. Candidates will be accepted based on JoSAA counselling. Therefore, they should keep a check on the official website of JoSAA.
  3. Once you get through the entrance exam, the institute will be asking for documents to verify them.
  4. Once the documents are verified, and you pass JoSAA counselling, you will then be allotted admission in the respective institution.
