About IIT Goa

Indian Institute of Technology, Goa, was established in 2016 under the Chairmanship of R. Subrahmanyam and Director Prof. B.K. Mishra. It is an Autonomous premier technology and engineering institute established in Goa.

The year 2020 marks the first batch of graduates will graduate this year, as it has been four years since their establishment and opening in Goa. With the approval of the Union Cabinets ex-post-facto, IIT Goa came into its existence.

The institution began its first batch and started functioning from July 2016 in a temporary campus at the Goa Engineering College (GEC) campus at Farmagudi in Goa. This institution offers degree courses in BTech, MTech, and PhD in various core and non-core branches of Electrical Engineering, Computer Science Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mathematics and Computing.

The Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT Bombay) acted as a mentor for IIT Goa for three years. With IIT Bombay having been designated to supervise and monitor the settings of IIT Goa, and a monitoring cell had been set up in IIT Bombay under as per HRD Minister’s command.

Because this institute is a part of IITs in the country, it is expected to do well in the future with expert professors and more facilities and courses which will be added in the institute shortly.

IIT Goa has become known in relevant spheres even though it started just four years ago. The institution offers an 8:1 student to teacher ratio, which cannot be met anywhere else. It is an ideal college for aspirants who are seeking an excellent engineering college from across the country and especially for those residing in Goa. This institution provides all levels of courses starting with undergraduate, postgraduate and Ph.D. degrees courses for students who wish to pursue their higher studies in engineering and technology.

Admissions

Indian Institute of Technology, Goa, one of the newer IITs, offers various courses to the students i.e. B.Tech., M.Tech., and Ph.D. in order to secure admission in the undergraduate courses, students must appear for JEE Mains. Students who qualify JEE Mains are then required to appear for JEE Advanced. Students are shortlisted for admission based on their ranks in the JEE and subsequently they must also take part in the counselling process. In order to confirm their admission through the IIT Goa selection process, students must submit the requisite fee and get their documents verified. For securing admission in the postgraduate courses, students must appear for the GATE. Though, students who have already completed their BTech, are eligible for direct admission to M.Tech. Ph.D. aspirants must have obtained relevant scores in GATE/ CSIR/UGC/NBHM/ICAR/ICMR/ICPR or DST INSPIRE fellowship in relevant streams. For the Ph.D. admission process at IIT Goa, interviews are also conducted if needed by the institution.

IIT Goa Admission Process for Ph.D. Program

- Students applying for PhD admission after bachelors must appear for a national level competitive exam (GATE or JAM or CSIR).

- Students applying for PhD admission after masters need not appear for the national level competitive exam (GATE or JAM or CSIR).

- Meet the cut-off announced by the institute.

- Take part in the interview process. Submit the presentation (if required)

- Submit the documents and complete the admission formalities.

Scholarships

100% Tuition Fee waiver for SC/ST/PH students.
Full remission of the Tuition Fee for General and OBC students whose family income is less than Rs.1 lakh per annum.
Remission of 2/3rd of the Tuition Fee for General and OBC students whose family income is between Rs.1 lakh to Rs.5 lakh per annum.

JoSAA has released seat allotment results for round 6 on 9 November 2020. Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) is responsible for allotting seats to JEE MAIN 2020, and IIT Goa is among the participating institutions. This entrance qualification process is necessary to be able to get admissions at IIT Goa. JoSAA has released eligibility criteria for this year’s seat allotment for various engineering, technology, and management universities. The seats are allotted batch-wise on alternate days of the month released by them. IIT Goa has also released a new notification regarding registrations open for Online Course HPC Shiksha: Basics of High-Performance Computing. They have also released the result of an online interview for the post of JRF. IIT Goa also signed an MoU with C-DAC for development of advanced computing.

Awards, Recognitions, Accreditation, and Collaborations

Some of the latest rewards and recognition received by the institutions are;

  1. Prof. B. Subudhi, EE and Dean (R&D) were elected as vice president of ACDOS, Indian National Member Organization (NMO) of IFAC.
  2. Prof. B.K. Mishra, the director of IIT Goa, has been conferred to the institute of engineers (India) eminent engineer award 2020.
  3. Prof. B.K. Mishra received the distinguished alumnus award from NIT Rourkela.

The institution is approved and accredited by AICTE which stands for the All India Council for Technical Education. An engineering institute is not considered prestigious without an AICTE accreditation, and the degrees are not valid and recognised in India without that.
