Queen Elizabeth II, Britain's longest-reigning monarch, died on September 8 at Balmoral Castle in Scotland after ruling for 70 years.

Queen Elizabeth II was born as Elizabeth Alexandra Mary on April 21, 1926, as the Duke and Duchess of York's first child (later King George VI and Queen Elizabeth).

After her father, King George VI, died, she ascended to the throne on February 6, 1952, at the age of 25.

On June 2, 1953, she was crowned Queen of the United Kingdom and other realms, including Canada and Australia.
