No Centralised Counselling for NEET says Health Minister

July 22, 2023

Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, Minister of Health and Family Welfare, addressed Parliament that no plan for centralised counselling for undergraduate or postgraduate medical courses exists at this time.

Mandaviya made the remark while responding to a query from Kavitha Malothu, MP for Mahbubabad seat. Malothu has requested information from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on whether the "National Medical Commission (NMC) has proposed a centralised counselling system for UG and PG admissions in medical colleges."

In response, the Health Minister stated that "no proposal for centralised counselling for undergraduate or postgraduate medical courses for the academic year 2023-24 exists." There have been no modifications to the present method of allocating seats to specific quotas."

In India, the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) conducts admissions counselling for undergraduate (UG/MBBS) and postgraduate (PG) medical programmes. The NEET UG and NEET PG results are used to determine the counselling procedure.

According to the government, counselling for UG includes 15% of all India quota seats; 100% of seats in Central Institutes/ Universities, Deemed Universities; and 100% of seats in all Institutes of National Importance (INI).
